Drive Train Center

The Drive Train Center at the IMW offers an extensive test field for the experimental investigation of shaft-hub-connections, couplings and pressure comb bearings. You can find a selection of our test rigs here.

For specific tasks and the production of test specimens, please contact us.

For the investigation of machine elements in the drive train, we have at the IMW:

  • seven tension test rigs up to 1 MW
  • six torsional vibration test rigs up to 500 kNm
  • two combined rotating bending and torsion test rigs
  • one static torsion test rig up to 5 kNm
  • two separate rotating bending test rigs

In addition, a Maximator high-pressure system is available for joining hubs on hollow shafts with internal high pressure. A 100 l temperature chamber for the temperature range from -70 °C to 180 °C is available for testing the above-mentioned machine elements under thermal conditions.

The following are available specifically for testing freewheels

  • two dynamic servo switching test benches with additional axial load units
  • two endurance test benches
  • one dynamic servo switching test bench with additional radial load unit
  • a highly dynamic load unit for end-face screw connections
  • a static test rig for determining the torsion spring stiffness

The following are available especially for the investigation of pressure comb bearings

  • a two-shaft test rig for transient sliding conditions
  • a single-stage gearbox test rig for efficiency measurements

The following are available for general strength testing

  • an MTS tensile/compression test frame with 100 kN
  • a Sincotec Swingly 20 kN resonance testing machine

A centrifugal test rig up to 40,000 rpm for fast rotating machine parts (e.g. rotors, air classifiers) and a test rig for mechanical comminution complete the IMW's testing facilities for tests on process engineering machines.
